I haven't heard of most of the songs on that list (except for the ones I voted for I guess). That said I did make an effort to pull songs I figured 90s JJJ listeners might know/listen to (given I'm guessing this is a reaction to the recent poll).
I'm fairly sure I recognised most bands and songs on the JJJ list.
Yeah it seems the people on my DW reading list have very eclectic tastes :)
I wasn't trying for an exact "Like the hottest 100 but with women" thing since the demographics are so different. I just thought it would be fun to think about.
I'm finding it entirely too hard to pick songs - I'd be better off if you asked me to pick favourite artists. I just... find it hard to play favourites.
I voted... but it was hard. Mostly because I prefer male artists as a rule. I did purrdence's poll and only had 2 female vocals.
I don't actually see the problem with the Triple J thing, radio polls really are "what do we like right now". They are fun, but really are only social commentary on the people who participate. And they have a Hottest 100 of all time every so often. I wonder if all the people bitching about it actually voted in it?
I wouldn't have thought it was a big deal if it was just mostly male (rather than 98% male), or even if being mostly male was the default. But all the other hottest 100s, and their usual rotation, have a much higher proportion of female vocalists, so I think it's notable. What conclusions to draw from it is a matter of opinion. I'm not as convinced that it's triple J's fault as some people, though apparently the "history of rock" stuff they had up just before was disproportionately male dominated.
Anyway, I wasn't so much meaning to go "Grr this is terrible!" as just wondering: what WOULD an all female hottest 100 look like? Not that my poll is at all indicative since it's a very different group of people voting, it's just a bit of fun.
And yes, I must admit I didn't get around to voting :)
I wonder if there is much different between the latest "Hottest 100 of All Time" and previous ones? I imagine some songs that get added each time are just popular at the time and if there has been quite a few artists of a particular background being promoted at the time. For example I'd be very surprised if the chlamidia song is there next time around.

I'll be interested to see the results, though.

Anyway, it's a deal! *votes*
I'd been putting it off since I knew it would be tricky and it was.
