Collar x Malice: Common Route 2 (the rest of Chapter 0)

The rest of Chapter 0. I added a character guide to the masterlist because there are A Lot.
Ichika bumps into Okazaki, who takes a nap on her shoulder. He asks if her name is Cat, since Sasazuka called her Idiot Cat, and she awkwardly agrees. Just as she's feeling bad for lying he says "Things we hide to protect others are different than lies we tell to hurt other people", which is an interesting parallel to Saeki's attitude towards guns.
Okazaki: And now I know you're a girl who can't lie, so your lies can't help people. I like straightforward people, because I can never be like that.
She goes drinking with Saeki.
Saeki, cheerfully drunk: I knew you'd understand. I told those guys from Traffic that I became a cop to make the world more peaceful and they laughed. But that's the purest dream there is, right? And you became a cop for serious reasons, wanting to help people like when you returned someone's wallet. I know you can keep helping people now.
Can't tell if this is cute or a sign he's a terrorist...
Enomoto bumps into Ichika taking a blackout drunk Saeki home and is shocked at her 'recklessness' in going drinking with a man and then back to his house, doubting her claims that they're just friends. She gets angry, and the two end up glaring at each other.
Saeki, waking up: Who's this guy...is he your boyfriend? ;)

Enomoto: I thought you looked cool and classy, but you're actually feisty...ANYWAY. SHE'S NOT MY TYPE.

And then they work together to get Saeki home, aw.
Ichika's first job helping the detectives will be connecting with a woman from forensics who has tentatively agreed to pass them information. She apparently hates Shiraishi too much for him to talk to her haha.
Ichika asks Okazaki what he's trying to protect and his smile vanishes briefly, then he says "Something precious, a heavy burden." HMM.
Her brother Kazuki has a friend over, the shy looking Akita Sera. Apparently Kazuki and Ichika aren't orphans, just from a distant hometown of Niigata, so Kazuki asked to stay with Ichika so he can go to a Shinjuku school. But since then their relationship has gotten worse and worse.
The TV shows bishie local politician Rei Mikuni...the text uses he and she?? I'm assuming they're not ACTUALLY non-binary and it's a translation error. Probably a dude?
Oooh, time to do RESEARCH about MURDERS. I'm not sure if the order I read these in affects what route I get onto, but I also don't have a strong preference right now, so let's go from first to last.
April 4 20XX: a video appeared at Shinjuku Station of tied up police officers in front of the number IX, with a computerised voice saying "In order to restore tainted Japan to health, the countdown to X-day will now begin. We will resurrect truth in this world. No longer will only the weak be persecuted." and then listed scandals the four had been accused of: collusion with organised crime, embezzlement, trumped up evidence, excessive use of force, bullying former officers into suicide...
YES, ADONIS. EXCESSIVE FORCE AND NOT FOLLOWING THE RULE OF LAW IS BAD.
May 4: A video appeared online of the four officers in cartoon animal heads being shot in front of the number XIII. Only one body was ever found.
June 4: All members of a MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASS were killed in an explosion?! WERE THEY ESPECIALLY EVIL CHILDREN, ADONIS??
...apparently so! "If you knew the extent of their crimes, you would accept their deaths as just" UH HUH.
...oh no Saeki said he was good with kids did he see bullying or something.
July 1: A man who was stalking a woman was killed by a bystander, partially in self defence. He and the woman were both suspected of being part of Adonis but no evidence was found. Adonis claimed it as part of the countdown, and called him a hero saving a woman when the police would not.
August 5-14: 3 people were shot in different locations per day, with the numeral V and an Adonis coin left behind at the first 3. All were members of the 'Shinjuku guild' of the same popular online game, speculated to have been involved in bullying. It was speculated that a large number of people had been complicit in the murders. On August 18 a suicide victim outside of Shinjuku expressed regret for bullying others online. Adonis uploaded a video saying they were saving future victims, and that the murdered gamers had committed sins that required judgement.
At this point, the Shinjuku Quarantine Act and dumbass gun laws came into effect.
September 7: Adonis uploaded a video of a doll holding their coin, the number IV, and a voice saying "Have you ever felt like your existence was unnecessary to this world? Adonis will mete out justice to the people who delight in creating such despair" Aw, thanks Adonis!
Police found the (plausibly faked) suicide of a man called Ken Hachisuka. They found fingerprints belonging to an acquaintance called Yuki Sunamori, who then claimed to be a "chosen one" and was arrested.
October: Another video similar to September's was uploaded, and Sunamori killed himself.
November 5: Traffic lights were manipulated to cause a crash between a truck and a motorcycle. Adonis posted a video saying arrogant people shouldn't have been born.
So. The love interest's focii, and Ichika's thoughts:
Yanagi: Everything. Her top pick.
Enomoto: April and May. Start at the beginning!
Sasazuka: August. When things seriously changed, but he'd be hard to work with.
September: Shiraishi. He's creepy and shady but this way she could investigate him.
Oooh, new work day and I get to decide where to go next based on a map of the police station's floors!

...ok I am going for earnest idealism over pragmatism or setting boundaries, because this isn't my first otome game.
New Adonis video, this time sent only to the Police: a tied up man with a 2 hour timer on his chest shakingly says that the police have to find him before the timer runs out or he'll die.
Mochida is quietly annoyed that Investigations was too paranoid to tell the rest of the police what they were doing, but Ichika thinks about how there is a leak: her and her collar, and possibly also the person who put it on her.
The police found the location half an hour too late. We see Sakuragawa in her cute forensics uniform and two older guys from Investigations: the gruff Hajime Morioka and cold Seiji Minegishi.
