Some posts about issues with Pillowfort

Pillowfort bans someone for NSFW content in a very hamfisted way

Expect anything you do on Pillowfort.io to be publicly-visible and temporary

Also see: VidMe or Why Platforms Aren't Your Friends (which someone posted to tumblr with some Pillowfort commentary but I didn't save the post)

I do get that a good replacement for tumblr would be amazing right now, and Pillowfort seems the closest on the surface. And I'm really enjoying having active lj/dw style communities posting lots of art. But I would not trust the site in the short or long term.

Hmmm. I really want to sign up to Pillowfort, but their latest TOS flip (and also watching the entire Kuroshitsuji fandom break apart) has made me so wary now. I also just don't understand the arbitrariness of pulling some kinds of art but then not also noncon or incest, or just moving straight to a censorship model, and maybe they will feel the same way and flip themselves on the matter.

I do have like 4 keys there waiting for me to use (and share) when I'm ready. I don't think it helps that PF is currently closed to new registrations, making them not actually appealing as an exodus site right now. I don't know, I'm still waiting it out to see what will happen. *sighs* But I really appreciate the links and the updates! You always have access to good information on these matters, and I feel have far more awareness of what might be happening around the place than I do. I pick up fragmented bits and pieces.

*remains very grateful for Dreamwidth and AO3*

People don't want VC or ads, but they also don't want to pay, and they also somehow wants small staffs of volunteers to have the same capacity for development and management that companies backed by massive corporations do. There's never gonna be a perfect social media site. Tumblr just crossed the line from "imperfect" to "unacceptable".

That pretty much encapsulates the whole thing in a nutshell, I'd say. *applauds*
