I think I'm literally the only person in fandom who loved that route and found it a beautiful romance

To be fair, as you'll see if you read any of my old fic or meta, my taste in fictional romance tends to run to dubcon-y things between people who have inflicted harm on each other. So, not exactly a surprise there.
